Tea time snacks recipes | Poongodi’s Kitchen will be very helpful to prepare different varieties of snacks every day to serve along with tea. For many people tea gets less priority at tea time towards the end of the busy day. It is the time to just relax and spend with your loved ones along with any hot snacks and a cup of tea. 1. Butter Murukku | அரிசி முறுக்கு

Butter Murukku is a South Indian snacks prepared for Diwali and Krishna Jayanthi. Murukku is a crispy South Indian snacks prepared with rice flour and deep fried in oil. This is also known as “Nei Murukku”, “arisi Murukku” and “Chakli” in North India. There may be slight variations in proportion.

2. Ribbon Pakoda | ரிப்பன் பக்கோடா

Ribbon Pakoda is another South Indian snack which is crispy and prepared using rice flour, gram flour, red chilly powder, sesame seeds, butter and salt. This is a wonderful evening snacks for school children. Usually prepared during festivals like Diwali and Krishna Jayanthi.

3. Thattai murukku | தட்டை முறுக்கு

Thattai murukku is also called as “Ellu vadai” in Tamil Nadu is another crispy evening snacks. Traditionally these Thattai murukku is prepared with rice flour, urad dal, fried gram flour and salt. It is prepared specially during festivals and as a tea time snacks

4. Kara Sev | காரா சேவ்

Kara sev is a spicy, crispy snack with all simple ingredients available at home. It will be spicy and bigger in size when compared to Omapodi. It will mostly be in diwali menu, because it is easy to prepare, pack and send to neighbours and relatives.

5. Omapodi | ஓம்ப்பொடி

Omapodi is an evening snacks which is prepared using kadalai maavu / besan / gram flour. This is an easy snack that can be prepared during Diwali too. This omapodi is the main ingredient used in South Indian mixture. and for garnishing Mumbai chat items.

6. Masala kadalai | மசாலா கடலை

Masala kadalai is spicy and prepared by deep frying the peanuts after coating with gram flour, rice flour, chilly and salt. Peanuts are very healthy and available throughout the world

7. Corn flakes mixture

Corn flakes mixture is an easy mixture prepared with fried corn flakes, roasted cashew nuts, dry grapes, aval / flattened rice / poha, ground nuts / pea nuts / nila kadalai, curry leaves / karuvepilai  and sugar.

8. Javvarisi mixture | ஜவ்வரிசி மிக்சர்

Javvarisi mixture also called as sabudana chiwda in the north is a crispy evening snacks prepared with nylon sabudana pearls of the larger variety. Regular sabudana pearls won’t work out for making this recipe. You can store this yummy chiwda in air tight containers and have it when ever required.

9. Kara Pori | கார பொரி

Kara Pori is a mixture prepared with puffed rice which can be served as evening snacks for children from School. Here we add ground nuts, roasted gram, cashew nuts, crushed garlic, red chilly powder and curry leaves. The advantage in this recipe over Mumbai bhel chaat is we can store Kara Pori in containers for few days and use, whereas Mumbai bhel chaat should be consumed at once.

11. Chettinad thenkuzhal | செட்டிநாடு தேன்குழல்

Chettinad thenkuzhal is one of the popular evening snacks in chettinad  area, that can be prepared and stored for nearly one month. When we were not able to prepare an evening snack instantly for family members and when we get unexpected guests this snacks will helps us. It is very easy to prepare if we have “thenkuzhal flour” ground in a rice mill.

12. Chettinad kaichuthal Murukku | கைச்சுத்தல் முறுக்கு

Chettinad kaichuthal Murukku is  one of the popular recipe of Chettinad and it will be an all time favourite snacks for family members and guests. It will be very crispy and of good taste. It is given to the bridegroom by the brides parents in large size. You need practice to prepare this murukku with your hands. If not you can use any murukku maker.

13.Kara boondi | கார பூந்தி

Kara boondi is an evening snack prepared from gram flour mix. This batter is poured in a filter spoon called as boondi spoon, which passes the batter to fall in drops. These drops directly fall into hot oil and deep fried, which is then mixed with roasted cashew nuts and curry leaves. Raita made with this Kara boondi will be very tasty.

14. South Indian mixture | மிக்சர்

South Indian mixture recipe is a popular mixture in that area. This mixture will be spicy with lots of curry leaves with a nice flavour, fried gram, pea nuts, cashews, Omapodi and Kara boondi.

15. Crispy Sweetcorn kurkure | மொறு மொறு மக்கா சோளம்

Crispy Sweetcorn kurkure is an easy to prepare snacks which will not take more than 20 minutes. Though many of us avoid eating fried items, we need it in between meals for a change or for a feast. The corn flour or rice flour adds crispness to this snack. You may buy full corns and separate the kernels or buy corn kernels in packets and use for preparing this snack.
