Sathu maavu kanji recipe | Health mix powder Porridge is a very healthy breakfast recipe. When you have sathu maavu powder at home, you can make this kanji in few minutes. This breakfast keeps you full till lunch and you would not search for snacks in between. This can be prepared into a koozh with thick spoonable consistency or as kanji which will be watery with butter milk. I have already given you about the preparation of “Sathu maavu”. We can prepare both sweet and salt version as per wish. First I have given you the sweet version. Preparation is the same in both. We add milk and jaggery syrup with ghee and roasted nuts in the sweet version. Whereas salt, roasted cumin powder, butter milk and garnished with some fried vathal in the salt version. Ingredients:-

  • sathu maavu – 1/2 cup
  • water – 1.5 cups

For Sweet version:-

  • Jaggery syrup – 2 tblsp (you can also use sugar or honey instead of jaggery)
  • Milk – 1/2 cup
  • ghee – 1 tsp
  • roasted nuts – few for garnishing

For Salt version:-

  • roasted cumin powder – a pinch
  • salt – to taste
  • butter milk – 1/2 cup
  • fried vathal – for garnishing

Method:-

1. Mix 1/2 cup of sathu maavu in 1/2 cup of water and keep aside.

2. Heat one cup of water in a tea pan. When water boils add this sathu maavu mixed in water to it. knead well till it becomes thick. Switch off stove and cool to room temperature.

3. If you need a sweet version add jaggery syrup to it along with 1/2 cup of milk. Fry nuts in a teaspoon of ghee and garnish with it.

4. If you need a salt version add salt as needed along with cumin powder and butter milk. Garnish with few fried vathals and serve chilled.
