Salted Mani Kolukattai | Kutty Kolukattai recipe is prepared with rice flour and salt and cooked under steam. This kolukattai can be served as evening snacks for children. As this is very small and cute balls children will love it. This is also prepared during Ganesh Chathurthi along with sweet kollukattai. This is a type of Uppu kollukattai. Let us see about the preparation now.

Salted Mani Kolukattai recipe – Ingredients:-
- Rice flour – 1 cup
- Salt – a pinch
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Water – 1 cup
Salted Mani Kolukattai recipe – Ingredients for Seasoning:-
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad dal – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
- Green chilly – 1
- Red chilly – 1
- Curry leaves – few
- Coconut grated – 2 tblsp
Rice flour can be bought in shops. But preparing flour at home will be better in taste.
Salted Mani Kolukattai recipe – Preparation of rice flour:-
Take 2 cups of raw rice, wash and soak it in water for 3 hours. Drain water and dry rice putting in a news paper for 2-3 hrs. Can also keep it in sunlight for some time.
Grind it into a fine powder in a mill or at home in a mixie, sieve it and store in a container.
Salted Mani Kolukattai recipe – Method of preparation:-
1. Firstly take one cup of water in a container, add a pinch of salt and one tea spoon of ghee in it and boil. When water boils, switch off the stove and add one cup of rice powder, mix well and close it with a lid. Let it stay for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, open and knead the flour to a smooth dough.
2. Secondly grease your palms with a drop of oil and make small round balls. Cook it in steam in a idiyappam pan for 5 minutes.
3. Further shape of the balls perfect again after cooking. Heat one tea spoon of oil in a fry pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, asafoetida, chillies and curry leaves. Now add the kollukattai and salt if needed. (We have already added salt while preparing the dough.) Finally switch off the stove and add grated coconut. If you wish you can also sprinkle dosai / idli podi and serve hot.
