Popular laddu recipes in which I share with you a collection of easy laddu recipes for Indian festivals like diwali, Ganesh Chathurthi and Navarathri. “Laddu” or “ladoo” are small ball shaped Indian sweets made of flour, nuts, sugar, jaggery and ghee that vary in each recipe. All these laddus are a good addition to your menu during festive occasion or good to have as a mid morning snacks or after school snacks or to distribute as prasadham during poojas. Common bases used are gram flour, wheat flour, rava, dates, moong dal flour, pea nuts, sesame seeds, condensed milk and coconut. Dry fruits and raisins were also added to the laddu along with ghee. Sugar, jaggery or honey were used as sweetening agent.

Now let us see how to prepare these Popular laddu recipes one by one during this diwali season. Thirupati laddu may be difficult for beginners whereas all other laddus will be very easy. Now a days people prefer jaggery instead of sugar and it can be changed according to your wish.

First of all let us see about thirupati laddu which is a popular delicacy from Indian cuisine, specially in the state of Andhra Pradesh and it is offered as prasadham in Thirupati Balaji temple. These laddus were prepared with boondi and sugar syrup. You can prepare these laddus during weddings and religious ceremonies and distribute to guests.

2. Popular laddu recipes – Dry Fruits laddu recipe

Secondly let us see about dry fruits laddu which we prepare using honey as sweetening agent. We can store this laddu for many days without adding any preservative and so it helps us to serve as evening snacks to family members and guests instantly, instead of preparing it in time. This is one of the tasty and healthy snacks to carry while travelling.

3. Popular laddu recipes –  Dates laddu recipe | பேரிச்சம்பழ லட்டு

Thirdly let us see about dates laddu called as “perichambazha urundai” in tamil, a healthy laddu which we prepare with dates, sesame seeds and cashew nuts. We can substitute cashew nuts with ground nuts. Both the ingredients dates and sesame seeds used in this laddu are rich in iron, potassium and fiber. This laddu promotes digestion, heart health and reduces blood pressure.

4. Popular laddu recipes – Groundnut Laddu recipe | கடலை உருண்டை

Usually we get ground nut laddu in shops as whole ground nuts made into laddu by binding them with jaggery syrup which is called as “kadalai mittai”. This is a different one where we grind the peanuts and so it will be easy to chew by kids and elders. Here we do not prepare a jaggery syrup, instead we grind the jaggery together with the nuts and make laddu.

5. Popular laddu recipes – Chettinad Maavurundai recipe | செட்டிநாடு மாவுருண்டை

Chettinad Maavurundai recipe is a traditional Chettinad sweet prepared with moong dal, sugar and ghee which is offed to the bride-groom from bride’s parents during Chettinad Weddings. We can also prepare this laddu during diwali and other festivals. It is very easy to prepare if you grind the flour and sugar, mix together and store it in containers. You can heat ghee, mix and make laddu in small quantities at home when ever needed.

6. Popular laddu recipes – Sesame laddu recipe | எள்ளு உருண்டை

Ellu urundai is prepared with sesame seeds called as “Ellu” in tamil, ground nuts and jaggery. There are three types of sesame seeds available in the market. They are black , brown and white sesame seeds. You can use any variety of it to make this laddu. Sesame seeds are a good source of protein, helps to get a healthy glowing skin, stimulates hair growth, prevents scalp problem, natural sunscreen, improves blood circulation, cures anemia, helps in digestion and prevents respiratory disorders.

7. Popular laddu recipes – Gulab jamun recipe | குலப் ஜாமூன்

Gulab jamun is the most popular sweet served during festivals and feasts. Here we prepare this jamun using milk powder and this will be easy for even beginners. Gulab refers to the colour rose and jamun which means berry. Gulab Jamun are berry sized balls immersed in rose flavoured sugar syrup. Traditionally these were prepared using khoya (milk solids) but now a days we prepare with milk powder which is easily available in the market.

8. Popular laddu recipes –  Rasgulla recipe | ரசகுல்லா

Rasgullas are prepared with cow milk, lemon juice, little maida and sugar which are all easily available in our kitchen. This is a Bengali milk sweet, originated from Orissa and popular throughout India. First we coagulate milk Milk to form paneer and then we make balls out of paneer and immerse in sugar syrup to make these soft spongy Rasgullas.

9. Popular laddu recipes –  Rava laddu recipe | ரவா லட்டு

Rava laddu is a quick sweet recipe that even beginners can prepare easily. Ingredients used here are rava, sugar, coconut, ghee, dry grapes and cashew nuts. You can use fresh or dry coconut to prepare this laddu. Use milk instead of ghee if it is consumed on the same day. In addition you can prepare this laddu for neivedhyam or prasadham to god.

10. Popular laddu recipes – Coconut laddu recipe | தேங்காய் பர்பி

Finally let us see about delicious and mouth watering coconut laddus which you can prepare during festivals like diwali or Ganesh Chathurthi. While you refrigerate these laddus and can use it lasts for 4 to 5 days. Here I have used grated coconut, shredded coconut (dry coconut or Khobra powder) sweetened condensed milk, ghee, pinch of cardomom powder and roasted chopped nuts to garnish.
