Sweet Sundal recipe | green gram | பாசிபயறு சுண்டல் is a sweet Sundal specially prepared during Navarathri to give as prasadham, for goddess Durga. We have already prepared Greengram Sundal . This is a sweet Sundal with same green gram which is called as Pasi payaru in tamil by adding jaggery / vellam. We serve this as evening snacks along with a cup of tea. Nutritional value and health benefits of Moong / Green gram.
Navarathri is a special festival which we celebrate all over India for nine days during the month of September. Everyday we prepare different types of sundals and give as prasadham to the goddess Durga and for the guests.
Preparation Time:- 20 minutes
To Serve:- 2 persons
Green gram sweet sundal – Ingredients:-
- Green gram/ paasipayaru – 1 cup
- Jaggery/ vellam – 3/4 cup
- Grated coconut – 2 tblsp ( I used coconut powder. You can also cut the coconut into small pieces and use)
- Cardomom powder/ elakkai podi – 1/4 tsp
- Cashew nuts/ mundhiri paruppu – 4 number (cut into small pieces)
- Dry grapes/ kismis – 8 number
- ghee – 1 tsp
Green gram sweet sundal – Method of preparation:-
1. Firstly soak green gram in water over night or 5-6 hours.
2. Secondly cook green gram in little water for 1 or 2 whistles in a pressure cooker. When pressure is released, drain water, and separate the green gram. Green gram should be cooked well but should not be mushy.
3. Further add little water to jaggery and heat it till jaggery melts. Filter it and remove the impurities if any.
4. Again bring to boil, add cardomom powder and a pinch of salt. Add cooked green gram to boiling jaggery and allow it in low flame till all water in it disappears. Finally add grated coconut and remove from stove.
5. In another pan heat 1 tea spoon of ghee, fry dry grapes and cashews to golden yellow. Garnish the sweet sundal with fried cashew nuts and dry grapes and serve.
